Hirata-san

Today (12th of May) we worked at the Kawaguchi area. Together with Takahashi Hirasawa (we call him Hirata-san) I have been working on some tosai ponds. It was another day of mudpond preparation in which we added liming material and artificial fertilizer to the different ponds. At the end of the day I made the following video, with the assistance of Hirata-san. I really like him, and although I can hardly understand him because of my pover Japanese and his’ very strong Ojiya-accent, it is always a pleasure to work with Hirata-san.

His experience with Koi is exceptional, working already for 40 years at Dainichi (he was the first staff) and next to that he runs his own Koi farm. Working with him makes everything look so easy!

  1. When I add lime to my mud ponds I have to wait at least 2 weeks before adding chicken manure to them. My reason is ph will jump to 12 and kill all in pond. Within 1-2 weeks ph will come back down to 7-8 and then add chicken manure. Is this the same result you did there?
