Yesterday we provided news about the Mature Champion of the European Shinkokai 2012. However, this breaking news should officially be revoked and removed from KoiQuestion. Were we providing you the wrong information yesterday? Not at all, but definitely it was an extraordinary situation…
Rob van Hulst received the flag with the title: Mature Champion. At the proclamation of this prestigious award, the flag was hanged at his bassin: Mature Champion! Actually, this is pretty good, because several weeks earlier, at the German Interkoi Show, the Koi won the Supreme (runner-up) Champion award. By coincidence I was close by Harry van Hout, winner of the Grand Champion, who Rob van Hulst informed about the outcome of the judgement. His shout of joy was heard clearly through the phone and Rob had to prepare his clothes for the ceremony…
The next day, the organization of the show made somewhere a mistake: Rob’s Yondan Kohaku was too big for the Mature Champion award. Unfortunately for Rob the flag was taken away from his bassin and given to someone else. The lucky one was Floor’s Koi Shop, who also had a worthy winner koi. The official Mature Champion was an in Europe widely known Kohaku, who won many awards on several Koi Shows.
When consulting the regulations I became confused. Below a screenshot of the rules of competition…do you see what I saw?
There is overlap in the sizes of different Champions. The Mature Champion and the Adult Champion is elected from the sizes 5 and 6!? It is for us unknown what the reason is for this mistake, whether the flag is just hanged at the wrong ‘yondan kohaku’ or not. However for us the show has two winners of the Mature Champion award. Besides all the confusion the organization achieved something unique with this ‘mistake’.
