Today I have been together with Antheny to attend a Koi auction in Ojiya. It was the first time for both of us to visit one and we were quite excited to see what it could be. We arrived around 1 pm, just in time for the start of the auction. Ryu Mano of Izumiya Koi Farm welcomed us and offered a place on the first floor to get a good overview.
On 1 October this year in Japan the now famous auction of the Dainichi Koi farm took place. The auction with only two prior editions was already known as one the most high quality Koi auctions in the world with accompanied prizes. Ikeage already has started for this year! At the moment it are mainly the tosai that are getting harvested, but in some occasions nisai (and elder Koi) are harvested as well. In case of Dainichi, Momotaro and Sakai Fish Farm both tosai, nisai and sansai are partly harvested already. The 20th edition of the Holland Koi Show meant as well the debut of a charity action that keeps us busy already for months. One of them was eager enough to break the record price for the most expensive Koi on a Momotaro auction ever, by ending the bidding at 5.5 million Yen (approximately €55.000,-)!
